I've already destroyed (lol!) the reputation of Dave Dudley and truck driving music by doin' my highly personalised version of "Six Days On The Road" and now I'm about to destroy the reputation of yet another giant of trucking songs, Dick Curless, by doin' my own version of his 1965 biggie, "A Tombstone Every Mile". Now, this ought to be one of the oldest tracks I've uploaded here on YT so far, since I cut it the same year as it was a hit for Dick Curless on Capitol's sub label Tower, aka 1965. I'm a bit embarrased over the vocal, I must say, as I simply did the lyrics from memory and 'winged it' here and there, or even 'slurred' my way through it more than I usually do and that's really saying something, ha, ha! To top it all I happened to have a real bad cold when I recorded it, which naturally didn't came in that handy. In hindsight I must say that I'm pretty satisfied with the backing though and I still clearly remember that I made up a 'sound proof' room in my parents m! akeshift garage by hanging up a bunch of blankets to 'kill' any possible types of 'standing sound waves' and fluttering echos! True hi-tech in other words, ha, ha...hope you like it in spite of all the drawbacks...
